Portland, OR -- Since Donald Trump was selected as the 47th US President, many Democrats and others on the left have become concerned. They are looking for ways to protest and make their voices heard. One idea some left-leaning influencers are promoting is the idea of a 'complete economic boycott' of the US economy for the next four years. They hope that buying nothing for the duration of Trump's term will have a measurable impact on the overall economy.
Several industry insiders gave their opinions on what this boycott might mean to them.
Fluorescent Hair Dyes
Henna Color Lab, a Portland maker of organic and vegan hair dyes, said they expect people to stock up the next few weeks but sales will fall off completely if this idea comes to fruition. CEO Miles McFruity stated "We are extremely concerned about the next few years. First, we have Hitler as our new president so concentration camps and the invasion of Poland are inevitable. Second, we're very likely to see a severe drop in sales for our 'Purple Haze' and 'Deacon Blue' hair dye product lines. Partly this is because of the boycott they're talking about, and part of it is women shaving their heads completely. Dark times."
Specialty Coffee Products
Coffee shop owner Tammy Borland feels sales might go down, but not significantly. She stated, "If this really happens, there will be some impact for sure, but we'll be fine. We sell more products than 'iced sugar-free vanilla lattes with soy milk.'"
Plus-sized Women's Clothing
Jane Sheridan is the owner of Grand Lady, a boutique that specializes in 'plus size,' 'big & tall,' & 'female style / mens cut' clothing. She's worried about the boycott and is arguing against it. In her words, "Well, yeah, this kind of boycott would have some effect. I'll be honest, though - I'm a lot more worried about Trump's choice for secretary of Health and Human Services. If he is successful, I'm going to lose a lot of customers."
